1975 – 2017
40 years of RIAR (Registro Italiano Alfa Romeo)

The Great Events

The Riar has always been the promoter and organizer of memorable events that made history and marked an age from the first historical re-enactments of the Mille Miglia (1968) to the Milano-Sanremo (1969), Targa Florio (1975) and so on – a tradition wished for and until now maintained along with the Directors who succeeded each other over time. In fact, we have always tried to give each of our events, in Italy and throughout the world, an aura of prestige and exclusivity. At the end of the eighties, I was appointed ASI’s Vice Chairman under the Chairmanship of Vittorio Zanon of Valgiurata and together we contributed to the launch of numerous other regulations in favour of historic cars also within the FIA (Fèdèration Internationale Automobile) where, appointed by the ACI, I was the Italian Delegate for the historical sector. In 1998, together with all the official Registers and Brand Clubs (Fiat, Lancia, Maserati, Ferrari), the Riar promoted a spectacular event that brought back to the roads of Italy not only our Alfa Romeo cars but also the most beautiful historical cars of our country, all together. The event was called : “Auto Italiana, verso i cento anni” [The Italian car – towards a hundred years – Ed.] In fact, together with Edoardo Magnone, Chairman of the Fiat Register, Guido Lamperti and Luisa Bracco of the Lancia Club, Maria Teresa De Filippis of the Maserati Club, Franco Gozzi, Luca Matteoni and Pietro De Franchi for Ferrari, a legendary sports meeting was held and it was full of passion and enthusiasm thanks also to very important sponsors such as Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Eni-Agip, Breda, Ferrovie dello Stato, and ACI It was organised by Incentive, a company specialised in events, owned by Clemente Gentiloni my former schoolmate, and brother of the current Chairman of the Council of Ministers. The sports meeting was repeated in subsequent years in Arezzo (2000) and Rome (2008).

At the same time, we promoted numerous cultural initiatives and events aimed at significantly promoting the history and image not only of Riar but above all of Alfa cars in every part of Europe when the Company was not enjoying a moment of particular splendour and sold cars that had very little to do with Alfa Romeo, in truth. In short, they were Fiat cars disguised as Alfa Romeo ones.
