An Exemplary Procedure

The Riar has always been a formidable tool for many commercial and marketing campaigns aimed at further promoting the image of the Alfa Romeo brand.
Over the course of sixty years, we promoted the spread of a culture, at the beginning just that of a few lucky gentlemen, but still an example for everyone of an all-Italian talent, of the skills of Italians and Italian companies made up of people who taught the world how to achieve leadership. And without ever going stepping back, while many historical contexts changed frequently and became unfavourable to certain cultures, and even while the brand’s ownership changed hands, the Riar continued its path, sometimes supported by the brand, sometimes forgotten, but it went ahead with strength and enthusiasm, building its history, its own tradition, and contributing over the decades to spread and recover the knowledge and passion that today are finally the heritage of all those who wish to approach this world, young people included who can access modern cars already considered historical, even just for what they represent. We promoted initiatives often carried out in places of great historical value or commercially inaccessible but granted in an exceptional way to the Riar as a prestigious, non-commercial and non-profit organisation. Many members in every part of the world always made available for free their consultancy and their cars for every event organised by the Company that, in turn, invited them and rewarded them on every occasion. The Riar has always been the standard-bearer of the tradition and of the excellence of the brand even when the Company itself had no interest in its own history and when even the media mocked vintage cars. Then the whole world, by the way, finally took note of historical cars, as on the other hand it always happened for other business sectors and here we are… to our day and age.

The Legend

This is the story of how we were born and what we have become; this is our tradition, the tradition of the Riar, which is also now a brand with a prestigious history of over half a century that I hope will serve as an example for wiser and younger members. A long time ago, to become members of the Riar one needed to be introduced by two other members, as is appropriate in the best clubs, which meant that two members would guaranteed for the conduct, reliability and moral fiber of the new aspiring member. Many of our members passed through this procedure and know well what it means to be guarantors for others. They are the ones who built the Riar and, since many people hold passion for and are interested in our club, my recommendation to the new members and to the young ones is to look up at them as role models and follow their pure, true, healthy enthusiasm.
Among the many magnificent Italian companies that made history in the world and were leaders, there is also Alfa Romeo with its own history made by men who pursued with great skills a visionary passion that also created good numbers. They taught the world that it is only in this manner that one becomes a leader. Letting skills and knowledge work.

Past Present and Future

And now it is my turn to be Riar’s Honorary Chairman by acclamation of the members to whom I wish to extend my sincerest thanks. After decades I am leaving an exclusive organisation that features two unquestionable traits: a very solid heritage for fully independent decision-making management and an image made of exemplary culture, tradition, relationships, skills and class.
I hope that the Riar will be able to build its future on the solid heritage of the talented people who have participated in it and that followed one another over a period of sixty years, taking a similar path of excellence that, as everyone knows, means always an uphill battle and always an unexplored path, but one that leads to an ample vision from which the unique roots of a strong future are born.
